Finding the Right Swimsuit for Your Summer Fun

Mia Morales
The most important thing to remember when shopping for a swimsuit is that everyone wants to look his or her best when out lounging in the sun or playing in the water – and almost everyone is insecure about body image.
When it comes to making the world of women’s clothing a complicated place, nothing compares to trying to find a swimsuit that fits perfectly. While the swimwear might look amazing on the runway model as she struts her stuff, that same suit may look terrible on the average woman.
That is because the garment industry classifies the female body into apples, pears, athletic, hourglass, and boyish, and the model has a defined and specific type of body that doesn’t fit into any of those categories and has little to do with the average woman’s body. The truth is that none of those body types are true to most of the women of the world.
The outdated classifications can make shopping for a suit even more difficult when real women head to the store to search for a swimming garment. To help you find a way to fit your body, here are some helpful tips to make your search a little less frustrating.

1. Shed Preconceived Notions

Last year you may have chosen a perfect black one-piece suit with a high leg and ‘barely there’ straps. If you expect to find the same style this year, you may find yourself lost in a fruitless search.
The swimwear industry changes the style of suits they market each year so that those women that want to don something stylish will need to purchase a new design, color, and cut of suit. So, when you go shopping for a new suit, shedding your preconceived notions of what you look good in can help you find something amazing.

2. Realize You Are Unique

Whether you want to lounge near gorgeous inground swimming pools Maryland or swim in the ocean, you need swimwear that fits your body snugly enough that it won’t sag when it gets wet. You may have broad shoulders and a flat booty that can rock an asymmetrical neckline and bold colors.
Perhaps you have a large butt and a big chest that would look great in a boy-short pant and tailored cup top. Maybe you have long legs and full thighs that need a little help from a short skirt or an uneven hip cut pant. Your body is uniquely yours, and no matter what type of frame you have, there is a swimsuit with the correct fit out there for you.

3. Try a New Style

Since everyone’s body type is different, finding the right swimwear for your summer fun can become difficult in a world that sells only a handful of styles. For most people, that means considering a two-piece suit or a mix and match selection.
Instead of looking at swimsuit shopping as a dreaded chore, consider it as an opportunity to find new designs, cuts, and styles that can enhance your body’s beauty in ways last year’s swimsuit may not have. Try something daring on, select a bold color, or show a little bottom cheek. If you feel great in the suit, you will look amazing.

4. Understand Age Changes

Most of the swimsuit industry leaders design and sell to females ranging in age from 14 to 30. That is because the businesses can focus on a single concept to enhance a specific look that is popular each year.  However, older women may not like the popular styles because as women age, their body changes such as stretch marks, cellulite, and saggy skin.
As your body changes, change your swimsuit style to accommodate it. Toss out the bikini and find a cute tankini, skirtini, swimdress, or shortini that hugs your body in all the right places.
The most important thing to remember when shopping for a swimsuit is that everyone wants to look his or her best when out lounging in the sun or playing in the water – and almost everyone is insecure about body image. That is why you should embrace your unique curves, find swimwear you feel good in, and then enjoy your fun in the sun.
