How to Make Greek Letters on Shirts

It isn't always possible to afford or get your hands on a Grecian lettered sweatshirts, to prove your utmost loyalty to your clan. While the rest of the world wears the same pattern and lives in the same routine, maybe you can take some time out and try things differently.

Why not wear your favorite Greek letters in your own custom-made t-shirt or sweats, and have the rest wonder as to where on earth did you manage that? The first rule about making things with Greek letters is that you need to know your letters to the dot, know them precisely as they are, and know them well.

Making Greek letters on shirts is a pretty simple and quick task to follow through, all it requires is a paper template/ stencil of the layout, you plan to recapture on the t-shirt. The stencil will then be used for copying the letters onto the fabric.

Items Needed

• T-shirt
• Tracing paper
• Paper razor
• Fabric paint
• Stiff painting brush
• Scale or geometrical ruler

Procedure

• Step 1:
  The first step requires that you print the Greek alphabets, as per the size of the font you would prefer for your t-shirt. Print letters which are at least 4 inches in size, so as to simplify the stencil making process.

• Step 2: Once you have taken the appropriate print out of the ancient Greek alphabets, you will need to take a stencil copy of the letters you require, using a tracing paper. Use a thick pen or a pencil to make the outline, so as to clearly demarcate the boundaries of each letter.

• Step 3:
  Once all your Greek stencils are ready, you will need to use a razor to cut the insides of each stencil, so that only hollow shells or outlines of each letter remain. You will need to cut the inner parts of the letters very carefully, as these will be placed back on the hollow letters. Let the boundary of the tracing paper remain intact, as this will protect the t-shirt from catching any extra paint.

• Step 4:
  Place all the tracing paper in a straight line or in your preferred pattern on the t-shirt. Now you will need to place all the extra part of the letters back into place. Paint the parts using fabric color, onto the exposed patches of t-shirt. Apply a thick coat of paint, while ensuring that the paint does not spread beyond the boundaries.

• Step 5: Now gradually remove the extra paper stuck in between the letters, and you will find parts of the t-shirt in these surfaces to be free of paint. Your Greek lettered t-shirt is ready! All you need to do is to press the underside of the t-shirt with an iron and thereafter wash the t-shirt in cold water.

• T-shirt
• Tracing paper
• Paper razor
• 2 different colored fabrics
• Fabric Glue
• Sewing machine (optional)
• Fabric scissors
• Scale or geometrical ruler

Procedure

• Step 1:
  You will need to make 2 stencils of the Greek letters you require. One stencil will need to be 5 inches, while the other of 4 inches. The objective is to make the bigger font cloth stencil the background for the smaller cloth stencil.

This will make the letter look bold with a highlighted boundary.

• Step 2:
  You will need to make the two stencils on two separate tracing papers. Accordingly you will need to mark these stencils on the two different colored fabrics, using a pen.

• Step 3:
  Now cut the small letters in to shape by following the boundary of each letter. Cut the inside part of the letter too, so as to make them look like the actual Greek alphabets.

• Step 4:

Now stick the smaller letters on top of the bigger lettered fabric, using fabric glue. After all the letters have been stuck, allow them to dry. After which you must cut out the bigger letters using a sharp scissor, while leaving an inch gap, between the boundaries of the smaller and the bigger font.

Each letter will have a distinct boundary, made by the bigger fabric behind each small letter.

• Step 5:
  Now stick these alphabets onto the t-shirt in the required pattern. Use a scale if you wish to align them properly. Now once the letters have been glued to the t-shirt, you may use it just as it is or you may fasten the words further by stitching the boundaries of each letter. You may use a hand-held sewing machine or ask a tailor to stitch the boundaries of each letter. Your fabric Greek lettered t-shirt is ready!

The above mentioned methods are very simple, once you get the stencils perfected. Making the stencils is the toughest part, which will require some amount of practice, and time.
