How to Make Stylish Roman Sandals

Things required

  • Leather piece
  • Industrial strength glue
  • Leather soles
  • Commercial insoles
  • Sharp pair of scissors
  • Ball point pen
  • Utility Knife
  • Leather lace
  • Card paper

Procedure

● To make the Roman sandals, the first thing that you need to do is cut the card paper into two equal sections and place them on the floor. Now place your left foot on one piece of card paper and trace the outline with a ball point pen.
Make sure that you trace the outline carefully. Do this with the right foot on the other piece of paper. Once you are done tracing the outline of the left and the right foot on the card paper, trace another outline that is about 3 - 4 cm from the main outline.
● Cut along the new outline and keep both the templates aside. Place the leather soles on your work table and then place the paper templates of your foot over the leather soles. Cut the leather soles with the dimensions of the templates with a utility knife.
Next cut out the commercial insoles to fit the leather soles making sure that the insoles are smaller than the leather soles. Keep the insoles aside once you are done cutting them to size.
● Now place the leather insoles over the leather pieces and trace the outline. Cut out along the perimeter. Next cut out a small hole at the upper side of the leather piece. Thread a piece of leather lace through the hole in the upper side of both the shoe pieces. Cut four 2 inch pieces of leather lace and place it aside.
● Adhere the commercial insole to the leather insoles by using industrial strength glue. Make leather loops with each of the four 2 inch leather lace pieces. Place the leather loops on each side of the leather insoles and glue the insoles to the cut leather pieces.
Cut out two long pieces of leather lace. Loop it around the leather loops in the front and sides of both the Roman sandals and tie them at your ankles or at your calf.
Now that you know how to make Roman sandals, you can make a pair for yourself over the weekend. Embellish it with sequins for a fancy look or with studs for a rock chic look. The whole point in making your own Roman sandals is to customize it according to your style and fancy.
