Reasons Why Women Love Shoes So Much

Malvika Kulur
Why do women love shoes? Why do they go gaga over boots, stilettos, pumps, or even just a casual pair of flip-flops? Why are they so emotionally attached to their shoes?
"For women, shoes are the most important. Good shoes take you good places."
- Seo Min Hyun
You are with your girlfriend or wife, and she spots a shoe shop. What is her first reaction? She squeals like a child and goes running to see what is on the window display! Or you are out at a romantic dinner or a nightclub, or just plain people watching; and your girlfriend is busy scrutinizing what other women around her are wearing.
She takes in their entire appearance and points out flaws about their shoes not matching, or how 'wrong' their shoes are for the venue.

I do exactly the same thing, and I always get asked this question - what is it with women and their obsession for shoes? The answer to that is never straightforward.
It is always just a random thought that enters in our head and we voice out our opinions. The most obvious reason why women love shoes is 'cause we just cannot get out barefoot. But all jokes aside I have compiled a list of surmises as to why the fairer sex is so smitten with footwear and it's elaborated below in this Fashionhance article.
You can wear anything as long as you put a nice pair of shoes with it. - Taylor Momsen
The first reason I usually give anyone asking me why I love shoes is 'shoes complete and add glamor to your look'. To simplify things even further, try this when you have some free time. Wear a pair of your most worn out skinny jeans, and team it up with a simple t-shirt, blouse, sweater, sweatshirt, or even a jumper.
For the final touches wear a pair of boots, platforms, wedges, stilettos, or ballerinas, and see the outcome. Your shoes add that glamor quotient to your look, giving you the feel of an absolute rock-star. They make every outfit look complete and fabulous. How?
Picture this - you are invited for a formal event, and you are completely out of options on what to wear. So you go for the safest option - a little black dress.
You're standing in front of your mirror, in your 'LBD' thinking something is amiss, and your gaze falls on a pair of studded or sequined gold or silver stilts, and voila! The shoes get on your feet in a jiffy and you are ready to go!
The second reason is that no matter how much weight you put on, you never ever have to change your shoe size. Your foot does not grow after the average age of 16, so even if you do not fit into the jeans that you wore at 16, you still fit into your shoes! You never spill out of your shoes like the way you do with clothes.
I like Cinderella, I really do. She has a good work ethic. I appreciate a good, hard-working gal. And she likes shoes. The fairy tale is all about the shoe at the end, and I'm a big shoe girl. - Amy Adams
Most shoeaholics will agree with me on this that shoes have this mysterious power to lift your spirits when you're low and cranky. Whenever I feel down, I either buy a new pair of shoes, or I try on my older ones, and instantly I start feeling better and more confident.
Sometimes we women feel really dejected when we spend hours searching for that perfect dress, but even after seeing and trying on piles of dresses, our quest is a complete fail. But just when we are about to leave the mall and head home, our eyes fall on the perfect pair of shoes. I can't even begin to describe the joy that is experienced when that happens.
It feels like heaven's doors have finally opened, and a chorus of 'hallelujah' starts off in your mind. We've covered glamor quotient, completing the attire, and being the perfect mood lifter, so let's get on to some of the serious reasons to why women love shoes so much.
There is an element of seduction in shoes that doesn't exist for men. A woman can be sexy, charming, witty or shy with her shoes. - Christian Louboutin
Heels have this uncanny ability to make a woman feel sexy - inside and out. Women feel like hot supermodels walking the runway whenever they wear shoes with high heels.
Probably it has something to with standing taller than what they are, which gives them the added confidence, or maybe it is the click-clacking sound that the heels make, while being walked in.
It definitely is something in that sound that turns even the shyest of the women into confident, self-assured divas. High heels also make women more noticeable to men, which in turn makes women feel very special.
Even if everything else is downplayed, I'll wear good shoes. - Tori Amos
Enough talk about high heels, 'cause it's time I tell you why flats, sneakers, wedges, and ballerinas hold a special place in a woman's heart. Let's start with ballerinas and how they add that 'cute' and 'petite' aura to a woman's entire outfit. Picture this - you are going out to the movies, and you do not want to dress up or dress down. So what do you do? You wear your favorite skirt, a nice blouse or top, and you pair it up with your ballerinas. Instantly your look from plain-Jane goes to cute girl next door.
When I think about a character, it does start with the shoes: What kind would she wear? How would she walk in them? - Jennifer Aniston
Next let us take a look at why women love wedges. Is it because they are comfortable and never make your feet hurt, or is it because it adds that summery look to your get-up? For me it is all three of the above. Wedges can be worn absolutely everywhere, because they are a blend between formal and casual, and they come in so many colors, varieties etc.
Flats and sneakers, on the other hand, are usually worn on very casual occasions. They are comfort shoes, just like we have comfort clothes and food! I have noticed many women choose to wear flats or sneakers if they are constantly on the move, because these shoes provide the right balance for our bodies, and never harm our posture.
Shoes make us feel special and unique. They come in a variety of colors, types, styles, and they are perfect when you're trying to mix up your style. There is never one solid reason as to why women love shoes. I would like to conclude this never-ending saga of the reason why women love shoes with a quote by Fergie -
I have always loved fashion because it's a great way to express your mood. And I'm definitely a shoe lover. The right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself. A woman can wear confidence on her feet with a high stiletto, or slip into weekend comfort with a soft ballet flat.
