Shirt Printing Methods You Didn’t Know About

There are many different types of shirt printing techniques that can be used to add a touch of individuality to your shirt. Given here are some of these methods.
Printed T-shirts have been in vogue for decades. With advancements made in technology, the methods to print these shirts are becoming easy to understand and extremely economical to carry out.
Shirt-printing machines and equipment have become fairly simple to acquire now, and hence, there are a variety of printing methods that are commonly in use today. The style of the design, composition of the ink, embroidery, and quality and type of the material, all play a major role in determining which methods are best-suited for a particular shirt.

Different Techniques of Printing Shirts

The positioning of the design, its size, and the colors that constitute it, play a fundamental part in the aesthetic value of the shirt. Each printing method will produce different results, where each of these techniques has their own advantages and disadvantages.

Screen Printing

This is one of the cheapest and most popular methods, as it does not require much equipment for its application. It involves the use of a stencil made of wood or aluminum, which is placed on top of the T-shirt to be designed.
The only drawback of this method is that one screen can be used for one color only. However, this is also economical if you are utilizing this method to print T-shirts in bulk. Paints or other type of inks are used through the stencil to get the design on the T-shirt.

Digital Printing

Since the production of inkjet printers, 'direct-to-garment' or digital printing, is one of the most common methods used by people to print T-shirts.
Since the designs are created digitally, there is tremendous scope to create intricate and detailed patterns. However, as this method is a bit expensive, it should be used by people who already have an established business set up.

Embroidery

This is one of the oldest methods of printing T-shirts, which involves actual stitching or embroidering of the design onto the shirt.
As a result, it requires hours of manual labor and a great artistic inclination. Since it is difficult to manually embroider large designs on a shirt, this method is usually used for small patterns, logos, or some kind of text. The effect it produces is different from that produced by other methods.

Hand Painting

This is also an old method of making custom-printed shirts. Painting or airbrushing using one's hands, requires a lot of time and patience by the maker, as well as artistic ability. Nevertheless, this is one of the most popular methods of printing, owing to the amount of creativity and uniqueness that the creator can add to the design.

Heat Transfers

This method is also known as plastisol transfers. The design that is desired on the shirt is transferred to a carrier paper. From this carrier paper, it is transmitted onto the shirt by applying heat and pressure on the paper, after placing it on the surface of a T-shirt. The heat enables the ink to get permanently embellished on the fabric.
These methods are frequently and commonly used. Apart from these, there are many other techniques that may not be quite as efficient as these, but their effect will still be visible. When you choose a certain method, ensure that the design does not fade away easily. Follow the instructions provided, to prevent this from happening.
